Trestle Made of Crude Steel

Model 1: On Top of Things. Height Adjustable.
Made of raw, oiled steel and nothing else: The model for this trestle served for many decades as a part of a trestle table in a porcelain factory. The closed-loop steel frame construction, which weighs a sturdy 15.5 kg, already ensures an enormous amount of stability. While the two crossbars, which additionally stabilise the trestle on each side, also made it possible during its working life to insert boards beneath the table top for extra shelves on a second and third level, and they can, of course, be used in this way at home. If you decide not to do this, these trestles, which can be set wide apart, will provide you with copious amounts of leg room underneath the tabletop. The tabletop rests on two circular metal plates of 10 cm diameter each. They are rubberised (in case a glass tabletop is chosen); for use with a wooden tabletop, they have holes through which screws can be threaded to secure the wooden tabletop. The height of these support plates and the tabletop can be varied up to twelve different levels resulting in a working height ranging from 66.5 cm to 91.5 cm (to which the height of the tabletop itself must just be added). It is therefore easy to adapt a table set up with these trestles to a wide variety of applications. It can be used as a workbench, but also as a writing table or even a dining table.
Isolated: Table and Board.
Table: "a piece of furniture consisting of a horizontal plate resting on one foot or usually on four legs," as the dictionary would lead the uninitiated to believe, thus preparing the ground for what is not just a mental disassembly of the table into board and frame. That the two do not necessarily have to form a solid unit, however, is good to know, especially in cases where:
- the spatial conditions suggest a tailor-made, possibly unconventional solution;
- the table should remain adaptable to changing spatial conditions, functional needs or even preferences;
- it is used only temporarily (and otherwise stowed away) or
- the table is to be based around the top: the starting point can be a found object, a memento (old wooden planks or boards, a historic door, an orphaned slab of glass or stone, etc.) or a preference for materials, which are simply unavailable in the conventional furniture trade.
Underneath is Set, Above is Your Choice.
Trestles put the decisions back into the hands of the user and open them up to almost unlimited possibilities: in the choice of materials (surface, colour), dimensions (length, depth, thickness) and configuration (shape, second level, functional elements) of the tabletop. The following models stand out from the crowd in our opinion through their different use and construction advantages. At the same time, they cover three very different styles, not only technically, but also in their visual appearance, which could, with a nod and a wink, be called "heavy industrial", "minimalist" and "practical-elegant".
The raw steel has been treated with a special oil for protection against corrosion. Rust stains can be removed with fine steel wool, and the area should be treated with refined oil.
