General Information

Flexible. Yet Robust.

Unlike prefab furniture, whose use can be set in stone, the table top clamps from the Bavarian furniture designer Jakob Schenk are versatile and, above all, allow for individuality. While the search for a suitable table can often be a complicated and even frustrating affair – sometimes it is too big, sometimes too small, sometimes the material, the shape or the colour is not right, and sometimes it is simply too unwieldy to be repurposed for a use other than the one intended – this system gives you complete freedom in terms of use and design. After all, building a table requires only two things: a base and a top.

Firmly locked in place but quickly dismantled.

In contrast to many other bases that can be found on the market, these table legs, made of (stainless) steel, offer a decisive advantage, which – once experienced – one no longer wants to do without: the table-top clamps are suitable for many different panels; and can be dismantled at any time without worrying about screws or tools. If you press the long ends of the curved steel structure (we offer them in three heights: 35 cm, 45 cm and 72 cm), the clamp opens at the top and can be fitted to tabletops of various thicknesses: in the case of the 72 cm clamp, for example, it can be between 20 mm and 32 mm. When the pressure is released, the legs are firmly and securely locked in place.
Just two flicks of the wrist turn a tabletop and the table leg clamps into a sturdy table. The depth of the tabletop is not restricted by this system. For the 72 cm high variant of the clamp, for example, the depth of the top can vary from 65 cm to about 90 cm. Whether you want to put up a large work table or a small side table, the system is the same. In fact, since the structure is simplicity in itself, it makes even more sense to keep larger and smaller tabletops – except those made of glass – and to bring them out and build the table when needed.

Always the appropriate table on hand.

The resulting table stems from a concept that starts from the top down and ensures a maximum in flexibility and individuality: the starting point could be a found object, a piece from your private treasure trove with memories attached (old wooden boards or planks, a historical door, an abandoned panel, etc.) or the decision for a preferred material that standard furniture dealers do not offer. And as far as the function of the respective table is concerned, the possibilities are numerous. It is in your hands whether to build a piece of furniture for the living or dining room, the office or hallway; with the stainless steel clamps even outdoor use is possible –they can support a bench for flowers for example. From the game table or the coffee table, from the buffet table to the desk, many constructions are conceivable, which you can upgrade, change or rebuild at any time. With some skill, objects to be used for a longer time, like sideboards, are also possible. For such complex projects, just as for the simple ones (using two clamps, one tabletop), the simplicity of the steel clamps comes into it as does their low weight.

An entirely Southern German project.

Jakob Schenk intended to have the production of his table-leg clamps done locally and rigorously implemented his project in Southern Germany where, in point of fact, the clamps are completely made. Their simultaneous flexibility and robustness are the result of a well-thought-out production process in which two halves of steel pipe are joined in specialised companies. To begin with, they are bent into shape with CNC machines, then the pipes are welded and the weld seams sealed by hand. Lastly, the steel is powder coated or ground by hand due to the tight radius, after which it is brushed.
