Stoneware Coffee Filter
No longer scorned. The filter.
The most commonly used method for brewing coffee today produces an especially clear, mostly oil-free, if somewhat aroma deficient coffee. However if you filter with water at the right temperature (about a minute after it boils or, depending on the coffee and the grind, 92–96 °C), manual preparation is still superior to most machine brewed of coffee.

Disappointingly poor quality
I bought this filter and initially was very pleased but at not even a year old it has a crack and several chips as the stoneware is just not very sturdy. My old Melitta filter cones are comparatively much stronger although I didn't want to use them as they are part of a collection of all sizes but then I suppose nothing is the quality today as it was in the good old days... I shall continue to use it till it finally breaks apart but shan't replace it with the same thing and instead shall try and find a ceramic or porcelain one from somewhere!
