Stainless Steel Toilet Brush with Bar
Ascetic: bathroom utensil comprised of a ring and a rod.
These utensils, designed by architect Theo Keller, are manufactured in a southern German metalworking shop with a great deal of technical precision. The principle: all utensils – from towel rod, to soap holder, to toilet paper holder - are produced by bending, snapping and rotating the same workpiece, a stainless steel rod with a diameter of 8 mm. A ring, produced on a lathe, serves as the sole mounting element; it too is stainless steel and equipped with a wall screw. Additional parts, like covers, are therefore extraneous. The ring, alone or as a pair, offers a firm or movable position depending on the objects. To obtain the firm position the ring is furnished with an additional hole and a hexagon socket locking screw. The designer himself describes this particular line of bathroom products with the attributes, "permanent, timeless, ascetic." We don’t need to anything more. In 2004 the Design Center of North Rhine-Westphalia honoured the quality of this design with the Red Dot award for product design, one of the most significant design prizes.
