Seven-Arm Bronze Candelabra
This bronze candelabra harks back to the design of an old, ritual seven-arm candelabra. It is cast in a workshop in northern Germany from bell bronze.
The Bremen Workshop Company was founded by Friedrich Harjes in 1912. He had worked for some years with the famous artist Heinrich Vogeler in Worpswede, near Bremen, before starting his own workshop, now run by his grandson. The bronze objects are cast of bell bronze, which gives them strong contours, a flowing form and the characteristic small ridges. There then follows a lengthy shaping and polishing process until the bronze candlesticks reach their final shape, in which they show a noticeable bronze shimmer and a surface that is full of life, reflecting the bronze-casting process.
