Scarf Pin Made of Horn
Article Number 28778
Scarf pins made of horn.
The horn for these scarf pins comes from Watussi cattle, whose gigantic horns not infrequently extend to two meters with circumferences of 50 cm. Bovlingbjerg, Denmark, the last remaining location where consumer goods made from horn are manufactured, is where these scarf pins are produced, by a manufacturer who has been in business since 1935, for the most part with handmade articles. The horn for these scarf pins is first cut in two halves which are then soaked in hot oil and flattened into horn sheet. The sheets are cut into sticks and smoothed with sandpaper. The sticks are then put back in hot oil, bent to the desired shape and given a final polish.
To bear in mind:
the color of the horn may vary. The colors referred to here are approximations. Also, when not in use, the needles should be stored in an open position to maintain their tension.
