Just as it used to be done in ancient times, the jewelry manufacturer has cast this silver ring in a bed of sand. This is made by a person who is probably the last sand caster of Baden-Wuerttemberg, whom the company found following rather a long search. After the process of casting, the ring comes out black and is oxidized and polished from the inside, after the sharp edges have been removed. It is, therefore, comfortable to wear and the casting membrane is preserved. The original (today has to be emphasized) rock crystal is set in at the position of the casting channel. Experience and sensation, this is what you need for sand casting and it is worthwhile – because with sand-casting the material becomes denser, heavier and less porous than is possible with plaster casting, the technique normally used by silversmiths.
