Still Going Strong, Despite a Global Economic Odyssey.
Despite a colourful history, the continued existence of lights made by Lindner should come as no surprise, given their quality. Founded in 1902 as "Porzellanfabrik für elektrisches Zubehör Lindner & Co" ( i. e. a porcelain factory for electrical accessories) in the northern Thuringian town of Sondershausen, the company was, until 1945, thriving part of the German electrical industry. In the GDR it became the centre of the "VEB Kombinat Elektroinstallation" (i.e. publicly owned company collective combine for electrical installation). After the German reunification, an odyssey through the slings and arrows of a global economy followed: at first a Scandinavian corporation bought the Sondershausener parent company, then the Scandinavian company was taken over by a French industry giant. The branch company "Lindner Licht", headquartered in Bamberg, went to an American company, which in turn was forced to merge with a subsidiary of a French electrical industries' magnate. Our current supplier bought the company in the spring of 2011, including moulds and machines.
Lindner lights - designed in a clean line, made for functionality.
The ceramic products from Lindner, especially their functional lights, have always been well known in the market for their exceptional durability and outstanding functionality. Since the 1940s, the design of the functional lights series has prevailed, with the lights providing good clear light exactly where it is needed most - in stairwells and corridors, in cellars and garages, in warehouses and workshops. However, Lindner lights gained acceptance in the world of art and architecture and are found in museums, conference rooms and lofts. Last but not least, the lights are an inexpensive option outside, as an outdoor porch light, for example, as they are protected from dust deposits on the inside and shielded against water on the outside.
