Necklace with Sand Cast Pendant
Article Number 23422
A Proven Technique. Sand Casting.
A model of the pendant is first embedded in a mould filled with sand. Then the model is removed carefully, and the remaining cavity is filled with liquid silver. The caster uses a centrifugal caster, which forces more of the melt into the mould than if it were merely poured.
The air in the cavity escapes through the porous sand; the result is a particularly hard cast, which is conducive to sustaining an engraving, for example.
Untreated natural river sand is used. It is left damp, that is, not saturated with additional water or oil. After the pendant has cooled off a large part of the sand used can be used again.
From raw casting to a piece of jewellery.
May be ordered with an engraving.
