Men’s Schladming Loden Jacket
Original Schladming Loden. By Steiner.
Near Schladming at the foot of the Dachstein Massif, where the Steiner family founded a "Lodenwalke" (mill) in 1888 – that is where the Schladming Loden is produced. The wool used comes from Tyrolean mountain sheep, which Steiner purchases directly from local farmers. It is spun on ring spinning machines into tear-resistant wool yarn. The yarn is then woven into a gray fabric. "Walken" is the fulling process – the heart of the Loden manufacture, in which the woolen cloth is made denser and approximately 40% more compact – and takes place on an old hammer fulling machine built in 1888. After roughing, brushing, shearing, pressing and decating (the cloth is treated with water vapor before it is cut, so it does not shrink later on) an extremely robust material arises, which balances cold and heat, is windproof, abrasion resistant and only slightly susceptible to dirt – an original Schladming Loden just as it has proven itself over a hundred years with mountain farmers and mountaineers.
