A coat like this made from Icelandic lambskin is the product of all the craftsmanship that has been acquired and refined to make such a valuable, first-class garment by our experienced manufacturer in the Sauerland region in North-Rhine Westphalia. Making a coat like this from the rare, prized material takes three intensive working days. Every year, it gets more and more difficult to find this scarcely traded material, while the prices increase because the markets in the Far East have recognised the value of the Icelandic lambskin. Twelve flawless skins are needed for this coat. And the pelts have to match each other in the hue, so each coat requires its own sorting process.

This slightly tapered men’s coat with lapel collar and three genuine horn buttons is made from Icelandic lambskin which must be grown naturally. The lapel collar can be worn either turned up or open and flat; two small, inconspicuous button loops on the edge of the lapel make this easy to do. The pockets are neatly worked into the coat’s side seams. The sleeves are purposely cut long and are likely to be a tad on the long side, rather than too short. They are designed so that turning up the cuffs fits with the style.
The manufacturer is a skilled furrier and places great value on the traditional methods employed in this craft. For example, buttons are not sewn on by machine, but by hand, using a traditional furrier’s needle. All outer edges are hemmed, all visible seams bound, and buttonholes piped: these are the most durable choices for a stitch. Each finished garment undergoes a two-stage quality inspection process twice to make sure everything is perfect. The manufacturer takes pride in the longevity of his lambskin coat and calls it a heirloom designed to be passed on from one generation to the next. Any slight variation in colour is merely an indication of the natural origin of the skins.

From the winter slaughter; only the soft skins from the young animals are used. The livestock is bred for its meat which is one of the main features of Icelandic cooking.
