Our leather collection is made with great appreciation and attention to detail, from the leather to the last stitch. The small leather goods are not lined; the leather reverse remains – with its natural irregularities – “truly” discernible. The seams are raw edged.
Leather and tanning.
The hides of English and Scottish cattle are vegetable tanned in England. This occurs during a drum tanning process, which takes place in slowly turning oak barrels in a bark liquor, each vegetable ingredient leaves its specific effect in the tanned leather: from mimosa, the bark tanning substances of the blackwood acacia, from Quebracho wood it gets its excellent feel, from the tanning agents of the sweet chestnut its beautiful reddish hue.

The finishing, which happens to the tanned leather in the barrel, results is something that is far removed from what is common today: in order to take the brittleness from the 1.6–1.8 mm thick leather and make it supple and durable, it must be “impregnated” after tanning and oiling. This has been taking place, without even talking about the modern process, since the middle of the 19th century with animal tallow, known as “degras”. If we go another step further back in time and consider the methods which according to experts the legendary, old Russian leather owes its reputation along with its ingredients fish oil and wood tar. In a rotating drum the leather gains a long-lasting, and through time, perfect suppleness from the ancient fatting agents cod oil and birch bark tar, in the process the birch bark tar waterproofs the leather naturally.
