Beginning at the Ends of the Earth. Les Racines du Ciel.
On the west-most point of the Breton peninsula in France is the Finistère department. The name, given to the place by the Romans, means the end of the earth. For the inhabitants of Brittany, however, it is called “Penn ar Bed”, or the beginning of the world. This — where the sky has its roots — may be a more appropriate interpretation for the Les Racines du Ciel brand owned by Nathalie Goyette and Christian Tournafol and operating from the Breton town of Quimper. They started out in 2005 by producing elegant, feminine and timeless fashion, with the focus on high quality. One declared business objective of Les Racines du Ciel is to promote artisanal traditions and products and so preserve jobs in impoverished rural areas: The items offered here are manufactured in Bulgaria. At the same time, Les Racines du Ciel is committed to fair trade, and takes ILO (International Labor Organization) and IFAT (International Fair Trade Association) requirements into account.
