Icicle Made of Twisted Glass (3 Items)
Christmas Tree Ornament from Baden-Württemberg.
This Christmas tree ornament inspired by historical designs from the Biedermeier period is made nearby the city of Heilbronn, nicknamed Käthchenstadt, after Heinrich von Kleist's play Das Kätchen von Heilbronn. A master glassblower produces the tree decoration primarily to keep up the traditional craft of glass blowing. His main preoccupation involves producing optical parts for medical equipment, which requires maximum precision at all times.
Undulating glass. Precision on a tree.
It's not surprising the tree decorations are characterised by such accuracy and detail because Kurt Schlitt makes them according to the same strict criteria in terms of quality and material that he applies to medical equipment. This is reflected in the completely smooth form, the even line of the waves, and the regular spacing in between. When light falls on the glass, it is reflected as a clear pattern in the surrounding area. The ornament is freely formed and mouth-blown over an open flame – made of borosilicate glass which can withstand thermal pressure and is also used in medical devices (as well as in glass tableware).
Like our Lauscha baubles, the eyelet is drawn out of the glass according to an idea by Wilhelm Wagenfeld, so that no other suspension system is needed. The wavy glass ornament is available only from Manufactum.
