The manufacture of one ice cream dish in Solingen today involves more than ten work steps. In the first step a circular blank is cut from the solid stock. It is then deep-drawn onto a dish form. Now the edges have to be smoothed on the lathe, before an intermediate stem can be worked which will later be fitted to the dish. Then another circular blank is cut for the foot of the dish, which is perforated and deep-drawn. Finally all parts are fitted and silver soldered together. In subsequent work steps the dish is polished and brushed and then subjected to a quality check.
