General Information

All-terrain. Exemplary fit.

This model of a mountain shoe (although equally fit for more level terrain) is a classic example of applied Heschung know-how: authentic style, namely double-stitched with a doublestrong cowhide midsole, the best materials (veal and leather from a tannery in Alsace) and robustness, not least due to its off-road-capable Vibram® rubber outsole. A good fit and a great deal of toughness characterize this shoe as well. Despite its enormous thickness of 2.2 mm, the mixed-tanned calfskin with high fat content (18%) is supple and weather-resistant.

Adjustable: For just the right fit.

What immediately catches the eye is the continuous, all-encompassing ankle strap guided through leather straps with a metal buckle, which allows for adjustment of the shaft end at the ankle, crucial to a good fit. Six sturdy, metal pairs of hooks guide the durable laces, included in two colors. A leather strap, made possible by stitched reinforcement in the heel area, facilitates comfortable entry. The toe box is designed to provide plenty of space. We found a Norwegian precursor of this shoe in a book about „foot instability“ from 1942, where it was presented as exemplary of good-fitting footwear. The bright hue of the aniline-dyed calf leather darkens relatively quickly. To care for the shoe, we recommend polishing with beeswax, or, if the shoe is subjected to extreme conditions, leather fat.

Chaussures Heschung. Double-stitched Shoes from France.

Eugène Heschung set up his first workshops in Alsace in 1934 and specialized from the very beginning in hiking and hunting shoes. His motto: a good walking shoe should be comfortable, weather-resistant and indestructible. The double stitching is done by machine on the traditional model of hand-welt stitching – in this way the welt is pressed outwards before the sole is put on, to give the shoe its characteristic appearance. The double-stiched Blucher shares its first class design with other models from Heschung: the lining is out of mixed tanned calfskin; the lace-up loops are of stainless steel and are hidden from the left side; the dust tongue is lightly padded; inverted pleats out of fine soft leather on the dust tongue make it impermeable; the inner sole is also made from tanned calf or cowhide; the joint spring is out of ash or beech tree; the filling out of pure latex; the profile sole, out of abrasion resistant rubber, is sewn through, a rarity these days.
