General Information

A Hand Axe Cutted from Graphite.

Not only gods, cyclopes or ordinary giants can operate this huge instrument but humans, too. While it is intended for writing, hatching and drawing, you can hardly call this instrument a pencil – due to its dimensions. Like our comparatively delicate graphite lead, the graphite rod is ideal for frottages, when you transfer underlying surface structures to a paper, for monumental sketches and labelling on wood or stone on a grand scale. Everybody who thinks that all this is too useful, should try the possibilities of this archaic looking drawing instrument himself.
Alas the graphite colossus does not fit into one of our pen trays or pouches while the colour has a strong tendency to rub off; therefore, the rod comes in a sac. A Portuguese company, founded in 1907 as a pencil factory, produces this unique instrument. The manufacturer have a long-standing commitment to supporting local artists. This seems to have inspired them. Understandably, they only produce this utensil in limited quantities.
