French Bistro Glass
The Bistro Glass “Par Excellence”.
It has been ubiquitous in French cafes and at French family tables for generations. Decades ago, Duralex, based in central France, developed a special process for producing heat resistant, robust, tempered glasses which are also less likely to break. Their design has them stackable. The glass is suitable for the dishwasher.
Duralex. Utility Glass Made of Tempered Glass since 1939.
Duralex, based in central France, is producing break-resistant glass – the so-called tempered glass – for more than 70 years. The process of making glass less sensitive to shocks and heat at the same time is a complicated one, achieved only by heating the glass to approximately 600 ° C and then rapidly cooling it down. Others have mastered this, too. However, hardly any glass has become as globally famous as the bistro glass from the Duralex series "Picardie". Who can imagine a table in a French pub without one of them. The other models from the glass foundry in La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin can be seen more and more often as well.
