Frankincense Specialties

General Information
Four Kinds of Frankincense.
Frankincense, the resin from the Boswellia tree, has been harvested since ancient times. Its fumes have a typical fragrance; depending on the type it is differently nuanced, from strong to mild, from aromatic to flowery. The incense box contains four kinds of frankincense: Ogaden (Boswellia rivae) and Borena (Boswellia neglecta) from Ethiopia, where the resins are collected by nomad families. They don't slit the bark of the tree as is usual. Instead, they simply collect the naturally extruding resin. Both these Ethiopian types are dark brown to grey and have a warm, soothing fragrance. The hand-picked Hojari superior (Boswellia sacra) from Oman is white to light yellow; its fine, lemon-like fragrance has a clarifying effect and is especially calming in times of stress. The Maydi (Boswellia frereana) from Somalia comes in very high quality. It has a lemon-like fragrance and creates a lighter atmosphere in the room.
These four types can be used on the incense burner or the incense coals.
