Frankfurt Cutting Block Oak Wood
For indoors, on the counter, or for outdoors, next to the grill: this is a kitchen workstation and space saving with it. The cutting block with its bracket system can be kept permanently on the counter or stored when not in use. It’s made in a carpenter's workshop in Hesse. The block is made of cross-bonded oak (FSC-certified). The removable brackets are made of stainless steel. With four black rings which can be slipped under the corners to protect against slipping or to maintain a distance to the counter.
Organisation is everything. Frankfurt Cutting Block.
In the 1920s the Frankfurter Kitchen caused a revolution in architecture. Today it is considered a forerunner of the modern fitted kitchen. It was intended to streamline the work procedures around the stove, putting ingredients, dishes, and essential utensils within arms reach. The design by the architect Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky was conceived as a workstation for one person only and guided by ergonomic as well as practical considerations. The same is true for the Frankfurt Cutting Block, named accordingly and designed on the basis of the idea of Schütte-Lihotzkys, transposing it into small scale.
The kitchen workbench.
A large format, four centimetres thick cutting board made of hard, cross-bonded oak takes the place of an entire kitchen counter in close quarters. It measures up to any work involving the preparation or serving of food. With its material thickness of four centimetres, the Frankfurt Cutting Block can be used for beating meat thin or fileting fish. Waste, like onion skins, vegetable and meat scraps or fish bones can be quickly swept into the restaurant normed stainless steel containers. The two creators of the Frankfurt Cutting Block have demonstrated that this system can hold up under the fast-moving, often hectic routine in a commercial kitchen. One is a cook, the other a certified designer. Jointly they have invested a total of three years in the development of this block. The bracket system made of stainless steel rods is patented and can be flexibly adapted to hold containers of different sizes as single components or in a combination of them. The containers shown here must be ordered separately. A seven piece set is appropriate to keep ingredients on hold and to store kitchen knives and utensils.
