Enameled House Number

General Information
Enamel signs. A house number to remember.
If you chance upon a house from the 1920s with a dull but still colorful house number, it is probably an old enamel sign. Enameling is a technique of providing steel with a protective and decorative surface. The same kind of materials used for the manufacture of porcelain and glass are melted onto the steel at temperatures from 800–950 °C. In the process the enameled steel becomes glazed and resistant to weather and light.
