Deck Light

General Information
British Deck Lights.
A small foundry in the Black Country, the ore and coal mining district of the West Midlands, manufactures the bodies of these lights. For the bronze or aluminium bodies, they use the lost mould sand casting process. Davey Lighting in the Cotswolds assembles the luminaires with the distinctive design. In the past, you found luminaires of this type on the decks of ships. It was this function that gave them their streamlined shape, as neither rope nor rigging would catch on them. The robust character of the housings stemmed from the necessities of the maritime environment – deck luminaires had to withstand even the worst weather at sea and potential hits from flying parts. Away from their former purpose, deck lights today mostly illuminate front doors or walkways. The light output of the replaceable LED lamps inside is rather discreet (350 lumens); however, they make their mark.
