Cradle to Cradle® Women’s Vest
Wanderlust. A Companion for Hiking and City Life.
When Finnish designer Ida Urmas picked a name for her idea, she chose “wanderlust”. It is one of the German words that have migrated into other languages and in many ways stands for happily crossing borders. Ida Urmas vest works just as well for busy city life as it does for extended hiking tours: It features three generously dimensioned patch pockets. They are reinforced with corded ribbons to increase their load-bearing capacity and latched to the vest with snap hooks. They are easily detached to load them up or to transform one of them into a shoulder bag – a matching shoulder strap, adjustable in length, is provided in addition. The fabric is designed to biodegrade, and its fibres are safe for human health and the environment. The Wanderlust vest is Cradle to Cradle Certified™ and has been granted silver-level status due to the vest’s metal components.
Cradle to Cradle®. Clothing produced in a closed-loop economy.
The Cradle to Cradle® approach takes recycling one step further by establishing closed-loop production circles that not only reduce waste but are essentially waste-free. The raw materials nature provides us with are turned into products; when no longer useful, these products get to be a source for materials which lead to new products or they are composted and returned to nature. The textile fibres and colours in the production circle do not contain pollutants; they cause no harm when released into nature by abrasion resulting from wear and tear or washing and decompose naturally in a given time.
Sustainability with innovative fibres: Infinito® and Tencel®.
The Cradle to Cradle® products in our range are made from woven fabric manufactured by Lauffenmühle. The Lauffenmühle weaving mill in Baden-Wuerttemberg maintains every production stage from start to finish on one of two production sites in Lauchringen und Lörrach. Drawing on experience gained in more than 180 years of textile production, Lauffenmühle specialises in innovative textile components nowadays like Infinito®, a biodegradable antimony-free polymer fibre, or Tencel®, a fibre regenerated from wood cellulose originating from sustainably managed forests.
Towards a sustainable product standard: five levels of certification.
Products get certified by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute if they meet the criteria regarding physiologically harmless materials, reutilization of materials, use of renewable energy, climate-neutral production, responsible use of water resources, and socially acceptable and fair working conditions. For each criterion, the assessment is differentiated corresponding to five levels: basic, bronze, silver, gold, and platinum.
