Ardamez. Emblematic of Brittany.
Shortly after they completed their studies in economics, it was the desire to establish a company that led Alexandre Gadessaud and David Hérault to discover handcraft. For this reason, in 2011 the Atelier Ardamez (Breton for emblem or distinctive character) was born near Nantes. Ardamez henceforth stands for the production of enamelled signs and bistro tables. The first tools necessary to make the tables, which were widely known in France (but no longer produced by many), were given to them by a now defunct manufacturer. The necessary traditional manufacturing methods and the craftsmanship of glassmaking were skills they acquired on their own.
A French Classic. Reissued.
The classic bistro tables with an enamelled plate can still be found in many French bars, cafes and restaurants, and these young Frenchmen started to produce similar models with tabletops made of solid oak that contain a central enamel insert. They customised the insert for commercial purposes – with the bistro name or a logo for example. At our request, however, Ardamez has manufactured a piece of furniture whose form is exclusive to Manufactum; namely a table with a chessboard in the centre.
A Table That Is Part of the Game.
This chessboard does not take up any space on the table because it is integrated into the tabletop itself. The combination of the materials used for the tabletop is especially striking: the chessboard of enamelled steel (48 x 48 cm) is set right into the centre of the tabletop, which is made of solid oak (70 x 70 cm). The edge of each square on the board is 6 cm long, so it is tailored specifically to the Staunton character set of chess pieces from our webshop (order number 82649), according to the rule of thumb: the height of the rook should equal the length of a square.
Ardamez manufactures the table almost entirely in France. Only the four-footed table frame made of die-cast aluminium is produced for the Bretons in Spain because the original French manufacturer has meanwhile discontinued production. For the furniture to be set-up and dismantled as often as possible, the plate designed for Manufactum is equipped with eight threaded sleeves which give the threads their solid hold.
The table can be used both indoors and outdoors, but it is advisable to find a permanent home for it in a dry place.
The delivery is made in individual parts (tabletop and table base). The table base comes dismantled and therefore needs to be assembled.
