CD Drei Schiffe sah ich segeln nach Bethlehem
Authentic Inwardness of German Christmas Songs.
This recording combines classical settings of favourite German carols with new arrangements of German carols that composers and arrangers wrote for "Singer Pur", the oft-awarded (and deservedly so) acapella-sextett from Regensburg. The sextet with the unusual combination of voices (a soprano, three tenors, a baritone and a bass) interpret twenty Christmas songs on this recording in a traditional way but also with their own fantastic acoustic texture, namely, radiant, dazzling and marked by an inner contemplativeness. Among them are very old pieces like "In Dulci Jubilo" or "Kommet, ihr Hirten", but also the rather unbeknownst "Drei Schiffe sah ich segeln nach Bethlehem" (i.e. "When I saw three boots with all sails set heading for Bethlehem"). This is a recording which captures the original intention of Christmas music, which is not played to sentimentally lull us but to bring our spirits in accord with the worldwide experience at hand.
