Bohemian Garnet. Rarely found today.
In the 18th century, the Bohemian garnet was so highly esteemed as a gemstone that in 1762 Empress Maria Theresia imposed an export ban. The garnet had another peak in the Biedermeier period. Today larger garnets are rarely found and the former deposits have, to a great extend, been exhausted. As stated in the expert information for future jewelers, today the garnet only appears as good for repair or as antique jewelry and there are many forgeries in circulation.
Once center of the jewelry industry.
In the Czech Republic, only one single corporate company still mines, cuts and processes Bohemian garnets. This is where our garnet jewelry comes from. It is based on our own design as well as on traditional templates from the North-Bohemian city of Turnov, which, in the 18th century, developed towards a center of the jewel industry due to its regional gemstone deposits. In 1884, the first European technical college for processing gemstones, metals and producing jewelry was founded there.
