Looking For Perfection in Simplicity. Aiayu.
Aiayu means soul in the language of the indigenous people of Bolivia. Aiayu is also the name of a Danish textile firm. The founders in Copenhagen strive for perfection in simplicity and simplicity in perfection in their designs. They return again and again to the same material for their knitwear: llama wool. It is even finer in quality than the hair of alpacas. The llamas live half-wild in the high valleys in Bolivia and can only be shorn every one or two years. The best of their wool is just good enough for Aiayu. The firm is located in El Alto and is working with one reliable local partner firm. Everything is manufactured under one roof, from sorting and spinning the fibres, to knitting, sewing and shipping of the garments. Over and above the production in one location not only shortens transportation paths but is responsible for a positive effect: Over the years Aiayu has been able to create permanent, reliable workplaces in the suburb of La Paz. And fo the matter of Aiayu's ecological conscience: As of 2009, a water treatment facility has been in operation of the grounds of the textile firm so that 70% of the water used can be recycled back into the production cycle. The packaging material used by Aiayu is compostable.
