The tree appears in relief on both sides of the pot – it’s the official emblem of the RHS. The pot itself is also based on historic design. Wisley, in the south of England, has been the English gardener’s paradise and general RHS show-place and teaching centre since 1903.
These terracotta pots come from a family firm in central England, hand-turned using a specially mixed base of local clays. After turning they’re left to dry for a day, following which the ‘apple tree’ stamp is applied. They’re glazed twice over: the first time (at 1.000° C) in a white clay mixture, then later with a beautiful shimmering green glaze.
