100% merino wool in herring-bone weave (weight of material 250g/sq.m.). Thickness Nm 17.5. Viscose lining. Real horn buttons.
We found the design and material – dating from 1890 – in the Thrie Estaits weaving mill in Scotland, and they have re-created it here for us. The material is really something to write home about – combed flannel in a herring-bone weave of superfine merino wool, relatively thick and weighty for a ladies' garment, yet with a soft, pleasant and decidedly un-heavy feel: at the same time sturdy and crease-resistant.
The sewing at the hems provides a nice contrast to the basically dark grey flannel, which has been enhanced with brown and green tones that take up the colour of whatever garment it is combined with.
Combine it with a business trouser suit – or with a skirt. It looks like a classic gentlemen's waistcoat, but with a difference: the back is not made of lining material, but Scottish combed flannel is used throughout, with metal adjusting clip at the back. Twin seams front and rear. 4 front buttons. The front hems have been given decorative stitching. Twin pockets with piping.
