We learn from Conan Doyle that Sherlock Holmes' favourite indoor garment was a dressing gown – sometimes a mousy grey, but often a flamboyant blue or maroon. In short, a very British sort of garment, not to be confused (as some Germans do!) with a ladies' 'housecoat' or a nouveau riche 'bathrobe'!
Jamiesons, Shetland's only working mill, have made our classic dressing gown from the wool of the local Shetland Peerie Sheep – classic in cut, pattern and weave. Intended for gentlemen, it might make some ladies jealous too. It has a broad shawl collar. The oversize sleeves are generally worn turned up, but some gentlemen like the full-length look – up to you! Two side patch pockets, sleeves and front hems with light-coloured piping.
