100% virgin wool. Weight of material 160 g/sq. m. With mother-of-pearl buttons.
This is a fine, soft knit of pure merino wool (21 microns), very pleasant on the skin. It is woven rather loosely from fine, tight-wound wool thread and has a slightly crinkly surface. Wool crêpe keeps its shape and has remarkable non-crease qualities. We’ve had two ladies’ shirts made of this material: one with a high stand-up collar, and the other with a round neck cut rather deep to emphasize the décolleté. Both models hug the body and are suitable as under-garments. Slit cuffs each with loop and mother-of-pearl button.
Wash at 30 °C. Pull out to shape after wash and let dry on clothes hanger. Steam iron (adjust for wool) on inside only.
In this chapter you will find a range of high-quality clothing - not high-fashion, but not unfashionable either - simply timeless clothing far removed from and unaffected by short-lived trends. Our first concern here is always the fabric and its quality. Our methods are always the same: we look for the »classic« fabric for each item of clothing, then we find the best British or continental manufacturer of that fabric, and finally the most skilful clothing manufacturer. In other words, we are trying to reintroduce more British and European content into our clothing range - as opposed to the current trends in the industry, trends which we think have not only undermined quality but have virtually wiped out a sector of industry which has shaped so much of our industrial and cultural history.

Fully fashioning knitwear has obvious advantages over using the usual technique which involves cutting knitted lengths and sewing them together. With fully fashioned knitwear, the front, back, sleeves and welts of a sweater are knitted separately with closed stitches on the edges. The shoulder section, neck and armholes are shaped using the same technique as with hand-knitting, i.e. by adding or decreasing the stitches.
The »fashion marks« that are produced as a result, are regarded by experts as a symbol of high-quality work and craftsmanship. The individual sections of the sweater are joined together using a technique that requires a good deal of skill. The effort is worth it in the end. It creates a shape and elasticity that a cut and sewn sweater cannot even hope to achieve. There are no rigid edges or seams with synthetic yarn. Stitch linking is flexible and the carefully joined sections provide the ease of movement so typical of high-quality knitwear.
