As it was 80 years ago – a jacket for all occasions.

This is a garment in the style of the 1920s and 30s – made of wool, with a stylish, rather sporty cut.

Material Questions.

Fox Brothers in Somerset have woven this cloth for us out of medium-weight (600g.) pure new wool using the traditional methods of 80 years ago. At that time there was no way of separating the more delicate fibres of the lower layer of wool, before spinning, from the coarser, whitish hair of the harder outer wool fibres. This earlier kind of wool could be spun into a relatively stiff yarn which in turn produced a pretty sturdy, resilient cloth combining all the good qualities of sheep's wool in nature – warm, and resistant to wind and rain.

Deconstructed – Cut and Details.

The front of the jacket is reinforced here and there with thin layers of cotton and horsehair mixture to help it keep its shape, but without any feeling of stiffness: it gradually adapts to your body contours. The shoulder stitching – which gives the jacket its shape – goes down into the back and emphasizes the excellent fit, rendering shoulder pads unnecessary. It has four front buttons. In bad weather it can be worn with the collar turned up – secured by an otherwise invisible flap and button. The cuffs have slits – 4 buttons: the bottom button-hole can easily be removed without changing the appearance of the sleeve should this have to be shortened. Other features: the centre vent at the back. Two roomy patch pockets, rounded, also breast pocket with flap. Two inside pockets cut inside the lining, together with extra pen and ticket pockets of cotton. The jackets are made for us in limited quantity by Kastell, a tailoring firm from Aschaffenburg, central Germany, one of the few left in what used to be a flourishing clothesmaking area.
