The weaver's, not the chemist's art!
All-weather cotton fabric.
The market for rain wear has been a gold mine for the chemical industry ever since the invention of microfibre impregnators.
Whatever can be said on the subject of hi-tech cloth, the fact remains that it is a tactile affront to the man who likes his skin to be pampered. For him, there has existed a fabric on the specialized market for several decades now that is both wind- and water-proof and at the same time natural: EtaProof. Made from thick spun cotton, it was invented by a British firm, Talbot, and originally designed for RAF pilots’ overalls. It was the first ever wind- and water-tight material that at the same time maintained body heat and offered complete comfort. Sixty years on, many pilots are still wearing overalls made of this legendary cloth, which is today produced under the EtaProof label by the Swiss firm Stotz & Co., mainly for the special needs of the aeronautical industry.
EtaProof – a natural product with all the advantages of natural fibre.
EtaProof is a pure cotton fabric specially designed for the purpose it has to serve. Extra-long cotton fibres are gently spun to form a particularly firm thread, which is then doubled and woven in such a way as to produce a fine, yet at the same time dense weave, using up to 30% more thread than in conventional cloth.
The end result is cloth weighing 165g/sq.m that absorbs not more then 10% of its own weight of outside moisture. If the material begins to get damp, the cotton yarn swell in the same way as umbrella silk and closes up the tiny hollow spaces between the threads, preventing any drops of water from penetrating. It is also excellent for not letting wind in, but for letting perspira-tion out, thus maintaining optimal body temperature. The way it is made gives the cloth a high outer surface tension that allows rain simply to run off. Whether wet or dry, EtaProof keeps in the body heat of the wearer while at the same time 'breathing' better than other fabrics.
For ladies and gentlemen:
coat and anorak.
There is no other natural fabric that offers so much protection, yet breathes so well, as EtaProof. It is also light, soft and extremely comfortable to wear. From this outstanding fabric, we have had Schneiders, our tailors in Salzburg, make a weather-proof coat for our collection. We've also had a hip-length anorak made for us by a specialist firm in the Harz Mountains, Friedrichs Wetterschutz. Both are in ladies' and gentlemen's models.
Its cut and design are what you would expect of a top-quality weather-proof garment.
Details:
- wide seamless sleeves ensure that the shoulders really are impermeable to rain;
- the button-on hood with string-pull tightener can be attached at the back with Velcro fastening and fits all common sort of head-wear (e.g. a cycling helmet);
- the two-way metal zip-fastener (behind wind flaps) goes right up to chin level;
- the back of the anorak has a slightly shiny finish that reflects the light;
- the sleeve flaps have a brightly-coloured reverse side that also reflects light when buttoned back – useful to ensure visibility in poor weather conditions;
- the bottom of the anorak can be tightened by a cord pull with toggle end, and the sleeve-ends by press studs;
- 2 horizontal outside pockets with flaps;
- 2 inside breast pockets with zips.
Both outer material and lining are of the same EtaProof quality – that is, double-woven. Size 48 corresponds to back length 78 cm. Black only.
