Shaped and sewn from one piece of leather with strengthened sides. The interior is lined with pigskin to protect the spectacles.
Vegetable-tanned cowhide.
Making spectacle cases from stiffened leather helps to protect the spectacles inside. The leather used for these cases is 2.5 mm thick and is shaped on a hot metal mandrel when wet. It hardens and then keeps the shape it has acquired. These spectacle cases are often superior to those made from harder but more brittle materials as leather does not lose its flexibility and cannot break.
