Camelhair is incredibly warm, with a silky gloss, much cosier than sheeps’ wool, very robust and durable – it ‘improves with age’ as they say – and gets softer with every wash. Garments knitted with camelhair are really light and ‘breathe’ with the wearer. Our Scottish makers, Eribé, use only pure, undyed hair from young camels, taken from the bottom (belly) side where the hair is particularly fine. The camel hair fibres are washed before weaving using only mild soap and pure mountain water.

The company of Triptis Porcelain, located since 1891 in Thuringia, produces this dinnerware, with blue, hand painted edges, solely for us. The set – consisting of dinner and soup plates, bowls, sauce boat and platter – has been part of our range for many years now. Thuringia, already popular as the “green heart of Germany” in the late 19th century, has a long-standing tradition in the porcelain trade.

We have once again improved our bike compressor from Saxony, by replacing the hose leading to the valve with a longer (1.2 m), more flexible, and textile-coated version. What proved to be worthwhile has, on the other hand, remained unchanged: the large, cast-iron base (inside: width 13 cm, height max. 9 cm), as well as the 50 cm long nickel-plated steel cylinder with only a 30 mm diameter capable of producing a pressure of 16 bars; it is also easy on the back with an operating height of 71 cm. The leather we use is of hide cut from the neck – the sturdiest part that the animal needs in order to cope with continual movement and daily strain, and which in turn ensures that the neck hide has a particularly robust texture. Our specialist Westphalian manufacturer uses vegetable-tanned leather from French cows to make these briefcases based on classic models from the 1930s to 1960s. They have two outside front pockets and an adjustable all-round belt. The leather’s deep brown colour comes from the cask-dye process using special fats to keep the surface grain ‘open’ and clearly visible.

This is a heavyweight coat-hanger stand, originally conceived for club and restaurant use, which takes up a minimum of floor, yet offers a maximum of coat-hanging space! The upper, revolving section is a miracle of sensible design: it has 36 stalks with the hooks placed exactly right. We’re not saying too much if we call it ‘legendary’ – one only needs to ask the restaurant-owners who are still lucky enough to own one. It is truly remarkable how much this coat-stand can carry without even beginning to wobble.

Petromax was developed at the beginning of the last century by Berlin councilor of commerce, Max Graetz, named “Petroleum Maxe,” of Ehrich & Graetz. With all of its accessories it is much more than simply a continually operating emergency light: due to its impressive light output of 400 watts, it can serve as an energy independent, truly high performing light source for gardens and patios (the German military and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief use the lamps as work lights during their deployments), and the separately contained cooktops reliably replace camping stoves with gas cartridges.

Devold have a continuous 150-year tradition of quality that needs no advertisement. The 'Nansen' is one of the oldest knitted models. This all-round pullover – great in the cold – is made from the wool of Norwegian sheep spun into a sturdy, loose-knit yet voluminous yarn.

As “collapsible garment hangers,” foldable wardrobes like this one were already used in the 1920’s – as wardrobes for tightly spaced areas in the hallway and bathroom, for airing out and drying clothes or towels. This variation, manufactured in Germany and made of aluminum and maplewood, due to its flawless workmanship and extremely robust construction, does not break under pressure when maximally extended or completely covered.

Snow, ice, slush, water: the 'Packboot', designed for the North American winter, can take it. Unlike its rivals, our boot is made of non-synthetic materials, and by hand – in southern Germany. The foot is of cotton-lined natural rubber, the shaft of strong, oiled and waxed canvas. Ladies as well as gentlemen will feel comfortable and secure in these well-cut boots with their lace-up fronts for optimal adjustment. They feel even better if you wear them with thick woollen socks. The removable inner shoe with insole is of pure wool felt with excellent ‘climatizing’ properties to keep your feet warm (but not uncomfortably hot!) in bad weather. This optically modest shelf for firewood, which becomes even more opulent through its material, consists of a 5 mm strong, U-curved sheet of steel; it can be placed near an oven and holds firewood easily accessible in sufficient quantity.

As the first business in Europe to do so, Brun de Vian-Tiran produced, in 1962, a blanket from pure Mohair. This was a milestone in the history of the business, because the smooth hair of the Angora goat, being unmixed, is extremely difficult to process. Mohair is extraordinarily long and lightly curled, elastic, silkily shining, durable, long lasting and agreeable to the skin. It has a climatizing effect, warming when cold and cooling during higher temperatures; it tends, because of its fibre structure, not to matt. Moreover, it is not sensitive to dirt.

We are proud to present our light-weight, slightly waisted gentlemen’s Icelandic lambskin over-coat, with lapel collar and three front (genuine horn) buttons. The collar can be worn turned up with the help of two small loops partly concealed under the edge of the lapels. The side pockets have been worked into the two vertical seams. The extra-long sleeves look good as they are, but can be turned up as required. Our Lambskin coat comes from a trained furrier in Westphalia.

Our range of coatracks includes a variety of models – choose between coat-hanger stands or wall coat-hangers, depending on how roomy your corridor is. Or decide for a material first: We have everything from bentwood to beechwood, steel, aluminium or even brass. Our clothes hangers – simple, but fine to look at and suitable also for wardrobe or closet – are made of solid beechwood and quite sturdy. The Scottish firm of Eribé in Galashiels use warm, voluminous lambswool from the first shearing for their scarves – we have relatively simple ones with a plait pattern in the middle and others with brilliant and colourful Fair Isle patterns. Other materials include alpaca and camel hair or wool in combinations with pure silk. Our lightest scarf is a ribbed one made of wool crepe.

These dining room chairs are a good example for the kind of work produced by the ‘Vienna Avant-Garde’ at the beginning of the 20th century. The idea was to achieve a ‘floating balance’ between the old and the new, traditional and modern design. Not only the chairs but also the makers are famous – the firm of Stoelker, operating from the small town of Ettenheim in Baden, south-west Germany. Our office chairs are equally famed – take for example Frederick Scott’s ‘Supporto’ chair from 1976. Black leather and bright aluminium make for an interesting contrast in this particular model. Our cuckoo clock is a special edition made for us by the old-established Black Forest firm of Rombach & Haas that seems to us to be superior to the original in terms of clarity of line and elegance. ‘Decoration’ is confined to the twin iron weights, which look like black pine cones. The reliable clockwork mechanism comes from a traditional precision engineering firm in Triberg. It works on an 8-day cycle – unusually: most (cheaper) clocks have to be re-wound every day. It’s also built to last: it comes with a manufacturer’s guarantee of 15-20 years before the first service is due. The striking mechanism sets the usual ‘bellows’ system in motion, which in turn produces the characteristic ‘cuckoo’ call. The so-called ‘wear and tear‘ of every-day use makes our sheepskin jacket look even better with time – half-length jackets of its type first became famous in the early days of motoring, our model is based on a historic illustration from the 1920’s and comes with specially made buttons of hand-rolled horse leather. No less exceptional are our men’s shirts tailored from Swiss lanella – a mixed fabric of merino wool and cotton very soft to the touch – or the light alpaca scarves with their softness and glow. Our selection of towels is international – from West Yorkshire come the exceptionally strong and sturdy honeycomb piqué towels with their high absorbent qualities. Our triple-terry cotton towels – in three sizes for bath, shower or as a guest towel – are much softer to the touch and exclusively made for us in Austria. The three-ply linen towels from Finland are the strongest. In their home country they are especially famous as sauna towels for the coarseness of the linen fibre has a massaging effect on the skin. It’s by far the best way to categorize notes by content, say, red for To Do, blue for Summary, green for Additions. Or, for that matter, by author/reference. Or for prioritizing – red of course for urgent! Unfortunately the market has been so flooded by cheap imitations in recent years that the four-colour pen has quite lost its reputation. With the help of a firm in Southern Germany we’ve now revived it – along with a number of other ballpoint pens, biros and lead holders of longstanding tradition and highest quality. Writing

Our jeans are an absolutely authentic version – in terms of material, cut and manufacture – of the original working trousers invented in the United States in the 1930’s. We even offer a pair of dungarees along with the jeans. You notice the difference strait away when you touch the cloth: ‘raw denim’ has a unique feel to it, exceedingly rugged and quite stiff. The Notebook offers more than six square metres of writing surface – hard to envisage perhaps, but we’re talking about enough room for recollections and observations over many years. The India paper we’ve chosen weighs a mere 50 grams per square meter, meaning that the notebook remains one and doesn’t mutilate into a monster. Our Aluminium and brass notepads from France are monstrously sturdy on the other hand. It comes as a block held together by a nut-and-bolt system fixed to a robust front strip and upper bracket.
